Bio and Disclosures
Bio: Dr. Alexandra Hollo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at West Virginia University. She completed an MEd at Vanderbilt University in 1996, then taught in residential treatment centers until 2008. In that time, she recognized that students’ language deficits often led to preventable conflicts and coercive interactions with relevant adults who often mistook miscommunication for misbehavior. Since obtaining a PhD in Special Education and becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2013, Dr. Hollo has established a line of research focusing on comorbidity of language and behavioral disorders in school-age children and adolescents. Her goals are to promote successful communication between adults and children by validating child-focused prevention and intervention strategies as well as improving adults’ ability to recognize and support children with these co-occurring conditions.
