This presentation discussed resources and best practices to assist SLPs who are completing school-based language and speech assessments for students in the USA following the COVID-19 Pandemic. Evidence-based resources were discussed and shared, such as dynamic assessment measures to determine language/speech-learning potential, in addition to general education systems that can be implemented to assist in addressing over referrals. Laws such as IDEA, 2004, and state education codes were also be reviewed.

Kelly Arellano, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a bilingual speech-language pathologist in Los Angeles who specializes in providing services to individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. She has presented seminars at national and state conferences on providing evidence-based speech and language assessments and treatment for multilingual individuals. Kelly creates and disseminates bilingual language acquisition resources on her blog, The Hola Blog (www.theholablog.com), and on social media platforms, (@theholaclinic). She runs her own private practice, Hola Clinic Bilingual Speech Language Pathology Inc., and has also worked in public schools and hospital settings as a bilingual speech language pathologist.
